U.S. Luxury Hotels Tips

U.S. Luxury Hotel Ratings Defined

Two major and respected U.S. organizations are the American Automobile Association and the Mobil Travel Guide.

The American Automobile Association, or AAA, uses diamonds to rate properties. First a hotel must apply to be rated, then inspectors secretly come to evaluate the property. Diamond ratings, from one to five, are given depending on the service and amenities. A 1-diamond hotel would be a basic, clean accommodation, but a 5-star is described like this: Properties reflect the characteristics of the ultimate in luxury and sophistication. Accommodations are first class. The physical attributes are extraordinary in every manner. The fundamental hallmarks at this level are providing meticulous service, exceeding guest expectations, and maintaining impeccable standards of excellence. Many personalized services and amenities provide an unmatched level of comfort.

The Mobil Travel Guide, which has rated properties since 1958, uses a star system, from one to five. Mobil inspectors come incognito to rate each hotel or property they plan to review and have a stringent list of requirements properties must meet to rate a star. Very few make the five-star rating.

Of course, there are many websites and mangazines that also rank luxury hotels. Choose a source you trust and do your research. Here are a few suggestions spanning the country.

Put Yourself in a Movie Scene in California

There’s something special about visiting a destination or staying in a California luxury hotel that has been featured in a favorite movie or novel. It is fun to say “Hey we’ve been there!” Sometimes a hotel featured in a movie is easily identified, other times it takes a little research to find the location when you are intrigued by scenes in a movie or on television and want to check it out. Start your search on the Internet by entering a search phrase like “hotels that appeared in movies.”

Here’s a jumpstart to whet your appetite. If the elegant suite and dazzling lobby scenes in Pretty Woman caught your attention, check out the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles. This remarkable hotel has been a popular movie scene and the choice of celebrity guests and discerning travelers for over 75 years. Some of the dignitaries and celebrities spotted at the Beverly Wilshire include: the Dalai Lama, Britain’s Royal Family, Mick Jagger, Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Elton John. Another bit of Wilshire trivia: Elvis Presley lived at the hotel for several years while filming several of his movies in the 1950s.

Of course, there are more than movie stars at the Beverly Wilshire. Step outside and shop the exclusive boutiques along dazzling Rodeo Drive. Dine on-site at celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck’s Cut steakhouse. Rejuvenate with pampering treatments at The Spa or simply relax in a celebrity-style, well-appointed room or suite with a lavish marble bath. As a member of Leading Hotels of the World, the Beverly Wilshire is an unrivaled location in Beverly Hills.

Taking a Bite of the Big Apple

As a travel destination, New York City has something for everyone. Sure, it is over-the-top big, congested and noisy. It is also a feast of fascinating cultures, cuisines, couture and characters. Maybe that’s why New York City is one of the World’s Best Cities according to Travel & Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler. In addition to all-time favorite museums and attractions, from the hottest new Broadway show to the hippest new restaurants, there is also always something going on in New York.

When a New York getaway is in your travel plans, it important to choose the best hotel as a base for taking a bite of the Big Apple. Upper West Side hotels offer the best access to Central Park, gourmet dining, major museums and Lincoln Center. This location also escapes hoards of tourists tramping around chaotic Times Square; yet it is still within easy reach of the theater district, business district and midtown attractions. For sophisticated travelers, The Trump International Hotel & Tower is a 5-star luxury hotel in New York City that raises the bar on Upper West side luxury with stunning views of the New York skyline and Central Park and a dazzling array of amenities. As a member of the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World collection of 5-star luxury hotels and resorts, business and leisure travelers know that their expectations will be met and exceeded at this Condé Nast 2007 Gold List hotel.

In a city where even luxury hotel rooms tend to be small and the bath even smaller, Trump International Hotel guest rooms and suites are impressively spacious with the personal touches like those found in a luxury private home. Look for European-style kitchens in most rooms complete with fine china and crystal. Enjoy an entertainment center with plasma TV, DVD, CD and surprises like a telescope, fresh flowers, coffees, sweet treats and a selection of newspapers. Marble bathrooms in most rooms feature Jacuzzi tubs, cozy bathrobes and deluxe bath products. At night, sink into plush bedding with high-count Italian linens and down pillows. And, staying in touch is easy with a two-line cordless telephone with complimentary local calls and wireless Internet connection.

When it comes to dining, Jean Georges is one of New York’s favorite restaurants. After a day in the city, unwind at the cutting-edge health and fitness and spa. And, the Trump International Clefs d’Or concierge has all the connections for those hard-to-get tickets and dinner reservations.
